Web Hosting

You need an account on a web host with the following features:

   * PHP version 4.1 or greater
   * MySQL version 3.23 or greater

Recommended and tested versions of AMP are

   * Apache 1.3.33 or 2.0.55
   * PHP 4.4.0
   * MySQL 4.0.25

Note Read the following documentation if you want to use bBlog with MySQL 4.1.x: Client does not support authentication protocol (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/old-client.html)

Unfortunately we have to announce, that bBlog will not be supported on Yahoo's webhosting solutions. Yahoo has such poor PHP handling, or such essential restrictions, that bBlog simply does not work on any Yahoo hosted website. The specific reasons for that are beyond our knowledge. Our guess is something to do with un-standard temp folders for Session Management, or not handling sessions propperly.

We can't do any testing because this is not a free host, and i doubt Yahoo would give us any access to their ini files, logs, and apache config files.. And we doubt us sending them an email regarding this matter will actually lead to anything useful in the next 5 years.

So.. avoid Yahoo as a host whenever possible. If you are on a Yahoo hoster, either decide to move to another hoster, or try another blog application. bBlog unfortunately does NOT work with Yahoo.

A good start for a solution would be to read this thread (http://bblog.com/viewtopic.php?t=1855).

Database Configuration

If you are using a hosted server, contact your site administrator to confirm the following essential information about MySQL:

   * Database Name
   * Database Hostname
   * Database Username
   * Database Password

Recommendations

Linux and Apache are recommended. However, some developers are running bBlog on Win32/Apache configurations, and bBlog is fully compatible with those configs as well.

If you want to use a Windows environment and IIS for bBlog, you may run into trouble - but feel free to send a fix.
